What is a Triple Puff Stitch Border
A triple puff stitch border can be best described as an edging made up of puff stitches. But instead of using one puff stitch per stitch (like this normal puff stitch border), this crochet border makes three puff stitches per stitch.
So if you love making puff stitches and want to add something a little extra to your crochet project. I think you’re going to really love making this border. It’s easy to make and works up fast because you’re repeating the same sequence all the way around your project.
Plus, it’s also a great border to add to a variety of projects. I added this border to the Cozy Cotton Throw – a crochet blanket pattern.

Furthermore, here are some of the materials that I used in this step-by-step tutorial, as well as the stitch I used for the swatch that you will see in the photos.
Materials You’ll Need:
- Yarn – I used Yarn Bee Cotton Et Lin in two different colors.
- Hook – I used a 4.00 (G) crochet hook for this tutorial.
- Scissors – To cut your yarn.
- Darning Needle – To work in your ends.
- Practice Swatch – You can either make a practice swatch or crochet the border directly onto your project. I used a practice swatch for this tutorial and the stitch that I used to make the swatch is the Reverse Blanket Stitch.
Stitches You’ll Need to Know:
- Chain: Yarn over, pull through loop on hook.
- Slip Stitch: Insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull through stitch and loop on hook.
- Single Crochet: Insert hook into stitch, yarn over and pull through, yarn over and pull through last two loops on hook.
- Puff Stitch: Yarn over, insert hook into stitch and pull up a loop. Then yarn over again and insert hook into the same stitch and pull up another loop ( 5 loops on hook). Yarn over again, insert hook into the same space and pull up another loop. (7 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through all 7 loops. Yarn over once more to close the puff stitch.

Step-by-Step Guide to Making a Triple Puff Stitch Border
Step 1: Insert your hook into the last stitch of your last row, and chain 2.
If you’re using a different color, reattach your yarn to the last stitch of your last row, and chain 2.

Step 2: Starting in the first space (or stitch) of your swatch, make one puff stitch, and chain 2. Now make another puff stitch in that same space (or stitch), and chain 2. Make one more puff stitch in that same space (or stitch), and then make a single crochet in the next stitch.

You should now have a completed triple puff stitch.
Step 3: Skip the next 3 stitches and make another triple puff stitch in the following space (or stitch).
To make a triple puff stitch: Make 1 puff stitch, and chain 2. Make another puff stitch and chain 2. Make 1 more puff stitch, and then make a single crochet in the next stitch.

Step 4: Continue to repeat step 3 all the way around your crochet project. If you’re working with the same stitch swatch in the tutorial, continue to work in each space. If you’re working the border onto a different stitch project, skip 3 stitches.

Step 5: Once you have reached the end of your border, slip stitch to the 2nd chain you made in the beginning.

You’re finished!
I hope you enjoyed making this border. Don’t forget to pin and save this post for later.
