Reverse Blanket Stitch

The Reverse Blanket Stitch is a beginner crochet stitch pattern that uses basic crochet stitches. All you need to know to make this stitch is chain, single crochet, and double crochet.

This stitch pattern is also made using a one-row repeat. So once you've completed your first row and second row, all you have to do is continue to repeat your second row.

The best part about this stitch is that it looks super fancy and complicated, yet it's so easy to make.

This pattern creates a scalloped edge on all sides, except for the foundation chain. If you would like for all sides to match, follow the next of instructions.

How to Crochet a Scalloped Edge on the Foundation Chain.

Reattach the yarn that you used for the blanket to the first chain you made (foundation row).

Reattaching yarn to the foundation chain.

Then chain 2 (counts as 1 dc), and make a dc, ch 2, and sc all within the chain space.

Then skip 3 chains, and continue to make (2 dc, 2 ch, and 1 sc) in each chain space across the row.

Finally, tie a knot when finished and work in your remaining end.

Now you're done and you should have a scalloped edge along the foundation chain.

If you would like the last row of your work to have a straight edge, just like the foundation chain, follow the next set of instructions.

How to Make the Last Row Look Like the Foundation Chain (Straight Edge)

Start by making a chain,

Then make a single crochet in the first stitch, make 2 single crochet in the next chain space, then make 1 single crochet in the next stitch, and 1 half double crochet in the following stitch.

Now you're going to repeat that sequence till the end of the row. Continue by following the sequence down below:

*1 single crochet in the next stitch, work 2 single crochet in the chain space, then make 1 single crochet in the next stitch, and 1 half double crochet in the following stitch.

Finish off your work when you have made your last stitch.

Hi! I’m working on making the scalloped edge for the first row at the end of the project. I’ve tried to follow the written description and picture, but was wondering if there’s a video I can watch. I can’t figure out where/how to reattach everything! Pls help! Ty

I did the scalloped edge on the starting chain end a bit different. I really don't like having to reattach the thread, so I crocheted the 1st row according to the pattern. Then instead of turning the piece to crochet the 2nd row, I continued around to crochet the scalloped edge on the original chain under the first row. At the end of that row, I turned the work to crochet the 2nd row. In effect, this turns row 1 in the pattern into the scalloped edge and the scalloped edge that you reattached the yarn to create became the 1st row of the piece.

@Nicky, one update. In order to move around from the last stitch on the 1st row to the fist chain space underneath it. I found that I needed to slip stitch into the chain space rather than start the row with a chain 2 because it was causing the piece to have a scalloped edge on one side and a flat edge on the other.
