If you want to make a blanket that is cozy, comfy, and oh-so-warm, this blanket pattern is for you! The Haven Blanket follows an easy one-row repeat that uses basic crochet stitches. If you can make a chain, single crochet, and double crochet, you can make this pattern.

You start off by working your foundation chain, then you will set up your first row, followed by your second row, and then you’re going to repeat your second row for the remainder of the pattern.

So it’s a great project to make while watching a movie or listening to an audiobook. I love to bring this project along when going to a family event because I can still be present while crocheting.

And it looks like one of those blankets that you spent hours on, yet it only takes just a few days to make (if time permits).

So if this sounds like something you would like to make, then continue scrolling down where I go over the stitches and the yarn used for this free crochet blanket pattern.

Stitches

This crochet blanket pattern uses only two stitches, a single crochet, and a double crochet. Down below, you’ll find a quick explanation of how to make these stitches. If you’re more of a visual learner or want to see it in real time, then check out the video tutorial for this pattern.

Stitches Used:

  • ch – chain: Yarn over, pull through loop on hook.
  • sc – single crochet: Insert hook into stitch, yarn over and pull through, yarn over and pull through last two loops on hook.
  • dc – double crochet: Yarn over, insert hook into stitch and pull through, yarn over and pull through first two loops on hook, yarn over and pull through last two loops on hook.

The Yarn You’ll Use For This Crochet Blanket

For this crochet blanket pattern, I used Lion Brand Hue + Me Yarn in the color Salt. This is a number 5 bulky-weight yarn that is made from acrylic and wool.

I absolutely love this yarn line and highly recommend it for this pattern. It also comes in a variety of different colors, so you’ve got a lot of options to choose from color-wise.

However, if you can’t get a hold of this yarn, you can always substitute it for a different bulky yarn to make this pattern. Just make sure to make a gauge swatch because there are slight differences in bulky weight yarn.

  • Pattern written in U.S Terms.
  • Due to the nature of the stitch pattern, I recommend working your foundation chain loosely. This will help prevent your blanket from curving.
  • At the end of the pattern, you’ll find instructions on how to make your foundation chain look like the other 3 sides of the blanket (this part is optional).
  • Total stitches for row are indicated between ( ).

Row 3 – Row 61: Repeat row 2.

Finish off your work and weave in any remaining ends.

Optional Border for the Foundation Chain

If you would like to have the foundation row look the same as the other three sides (wavy scalloped edge), follow the next set of instructions.

Reattach the yarn that you used for the blanket to the first chain you made (foundation row).

Then chain 2 (counts as 1 dc), and make a dc, ch 2, and sc all within the chain space.

Iโ€™m starting this blanket soon. Can I use a single crochet foundation row instead of simple chain? Would I still follow the same border instructions for that side once finished? Thanks!

Hi there, yes, you can definitely use the single crochet foundation row to get started with the pattern. Yes, you would still follow the same instructions for the border on the foundation row. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Hello! My blanket is turning out much smaller than 52x60. Itโ€™s only 40 inches wide and I have 18 rows left, and itโ€™s 27 inches tall. Iโ€™m using the same yarn and hook size. It looks just like your picture and is beautiful! But it looks more like the size of a lap blanket. Do you have a starting chain count and row count to make it 52x60?

Hi there, did you make a gauge swatch? Sometimes even one stitch can make a huge difference. The starting chain for the blanket pattern is 136.
