Before we get started with this review, I just want to say a massive thank you to the publisher for sending me a free copy of this book. I’m so excited to review it and I can’t wait to share all my thoughts about this book in today’s blog post. Let’s get started!
Overview of the Book
A Modern Guide to Granny Squares by Celine Semaan is a crochet book filled with different crochet granny square patterns. Each square offers a modern contemporary twist!
Along with each pattern, you’ll find detailed instructions, clear photographs, and a helpful chart. Each pattern also shows a matching square you can make along with it. So no thinking is required when pairing granny squares together.
You simply look up the page and make the corresponding granny square. This is perfect for crocheters who may have a hard time figuring out which granny square to make next! This book also includes four different projects: a blanket, a pillow, and a wall hanging.
So you’ll never get bored on what to do with all those granny squares!
Highlights
Moving on to the highlights of this book, I really appreciated how detailed each pattern was for the granny squares. Oftentimes, I find that some books don’t include all the information that you would need to make a granny square.
Not with this book, it includes your general information (yarn, hook size, etc.), but then it also lists skill level, techniques you’ll use while making a square, a detailed chart, and it shows a picture of another granny square that would make a great matching pair.
I’ve never seen this before in another crochet book, and I’ve read through quite a few books. So I was super impressed that this book thought about everything you might need to make one of these blocks.
I also liked how this book used a variety of different colors and it shows how you can mix and match different colors. I definitely struggle with color theory when making patterns, so I loved how this book showed all the different color combinations.
Final Thoughts
Moving on to my final thoughts, I think “A Modern Guide to Granny Squares” by Celine Semaan is a great book to have in your crafting library. It’s perfect for those looking to expand their skills, experiment with new designs, or simply find fresh inspiration. If you enjoy working with granny squares, this book is definitely worth adding to your collection.
I can see myself pulling out this book time and time again for when I want to make something new and exciting!
