The inspiration behind the easy crochet pencil pouch came from me needing a quick birthday present. I knew that I wanted to create something because there’s just something about receiving a home made gift! It makes it that much more special.
So I thought why not create a super easy pencil pouch that you can use for school or at home where you can put all your pencils and markers in. Something cute, yet easy enough to make in an hour.
After figuring out the construction of the crochet pencil pouch (which is really easy). I got to thinking about what type of yarn I wanted to use for my project. Cotton or Acrylic?!
I ended up making the crochet pencil pouch with cotton yarn because I wanted to pouch to have a summery feel to it. Plus, I feel cotton holds up really well and I love working with it.
However, this crochet project can be made with any type of yarn. So go through your yarn stash and see what you can find. I used left over cotton yarn from a frogged project. So I think I put mine to good use!
Anyways, let’s get into this pattern.
Create an easy crochet pencil pouch for yourself or as a quick gift. This pouch uses only single crochet stitches and can be made in under an hour.
- Worsted weight yarn (#4), I used Loops and Threads Cotton Colors in the color sunrise.
- 3.0 mm hook (U.S./size C)
- 7 Inch Zipper with holes. I purchase mine from Hobby Lobby their Sew.ology Brand.
Gauge is not needed for this project, but for reference:
16 rows x 20 stitches = 4 inches
ch – chain
ss- slip stitch
sc – single crochet
- My yarn is multi colored, so I did not have to switch colors throughout making the pouch.
- the crochet pencil pouch is worked in the round. I crochet a total of 17 rounds, but you can always make it bigger.
Step 1: Grab your zipper and work a ss in the first hole. Continue by ch 1 and sc all the way around the zipper. Once your at the end slip stitch together.
Pattern is as follows:
ss in first hole, ch 1, sc, ch 1, sc, all the way around the zipper. ss the beginning and last ch together. (photo for reference)
Once you have completed the first round. Continue the second round by making all sc.
Continue to work in the round until you have 17 rows. You can always add additional rows to make it bigger.
Once you have made 17 rows in the round. Do not cut your yarn ( we will be using this yarn to slip stitch the piece together.
Finally, Slip stitch the pieces of your pouch together and work in your tail ends.
And that’s it!! You just made yourself a really cute pencil pouch. I hope you enjoyed this easy and quick tutorial. Let me know in the comments how yours turned out?
