The perfect scrap yarn project!

One great thing about this crochet coaster pattern is that you don’t need a lot of yarn. You only need about 25 yards of yarn to make one crochet coaster. It’s the perfect scrap yarn project!

So if you have some cotton yarn leftover from a project, this would be the perfect thing to make! You can also make some simple crochet washcloths or some quick potholders.

What type of yarn is best for crochet coasters?

I always recommend cotton yarn for coasters because acrylic yarn can melt when heat is applied to it. So it’s always best to go with natural fiber for kitchen crochet projects.

For this coaster pattern, I chose to work with We Crochet Dishie yarn in the color linen. It’s a worsted weight, number 4 cotton yarn. I love working with this cotton yarn because it’s really soft and it doesn’t split like some other cotton yarns.

We Crochet Dishie yarn comes in a variety of different colors, my three favorite colors to use are linen, swan, and blush.

Some of my other favorite cotton yarn brands include:

  • Lion Brand 24/7 Mercerized Cotton Yarn
  • Lily Sugar N’ Cream Collection
  • Hobby Lobby I Love This Cotton Yarn

How to add fringe to your crochet coaster?

All you have to do for this boho crochet coaster project is cut a 4-inch piece of yarn and fold it in half. Insert your hook and yarn into the stitch. Pull through the stitch, remove your hook, and pull the loose ends through the loop.

It’s a really simple technique and adds the perfect touch to any crochet project!

Hi! In round 4, you say to repeat after * but there isn’t a * in round 4. Are you referring to the * in round 3 there? Thank you!

Hi there, thank you for catching my mistake. There was suppose to be a * in round 4. I just fixed it, so it should say it correctly now. Thank you again! 😊
