The twisted crochet headband is sure to be a hit this season! All you need is a hook and some yarn to create this easy crochet headband.

Twisted crochet headband

Hey Friends,

I have the simplest little crochet headband for you today! I present the Twisted Crochet Headband. I’ve been seeing loads of these headbands around town in all different colors. Most of them being made out of fabric, so I thought “why not make a crochet version?!”

Oh and its just so simple to make, which is what I like! I love using basic crochet stitches to create patterns, because there’s something so beautiful about using the basic stitches. I mean just by changing the hook size, a pattern can look completely different. Plus, you made it with your own two hands!!

And that is pretty AMAZING if you ask me!

HOW TO CROCHET A TWISTED HEADBAND

This easy crochet twisted headband pattern is really simple because you literally only have to know how to slip stitch and single crochet. You are going to be working in the round, while twisting the beginning part of it. Which is what will give the ”twist part of the headband.” After that the pattern is super simple!

The sizing of the crochet twisted headband is the average size for a woman’s head. You can always increase or decrease the initial stitch count to make it smaller or bigger.

Ok, so let’s talk about yarn for a second. I used LionBrand Wool Ease yarn because its nice and soft, but also quite stretchy. And let’s be honest, it’s what I had in my current yarn stash (lol). Almost any worsted weight yarn will work for this pattern, but it needs to be yarn with some stretch to it.

Side Note: I didn’t do this, but you could always add some cute buttons or crochet flowers to this headband piece. I feel like this would be really cute! I plan on making these as gifts for the holidays and will be adding some embellishments on to it.

What you’ll need:

  • Worsted weight yarn (4). I used one skein of LionBrand Wool-Ease in the color Natural Heather.
  • Size J (6 mm ) crochet hook
  • Tapestry Needle
  • Stitch Marker
  • Measuring Tape

Abbreviations (US Terms):

ch – chain, sl st – slip stitch, sc – single crochet

Sizing:

Size of headband when stretched is 22 inches

Size of headband when not stretched is 18 1/2 inches

Notes:

This pattern is designed to fit a woman’s head. However, you can increase or decrease the initial amount of chains to make other sizes.

I highly recommend you use LionBrand Wool-Ease yarn, because it has some stretch to it. If not, pick a yarn that’s a bit stretchy. This is needed for the pattern.

Pattern:

Row 1: ch 60

once you chain 60, grab your measuring tape and measure it. It should be 18 1/2 inches. When stretched it should be 22 inches.

then sl st together

Row 2: ch 1 (place stitch marker) and sc across (60 ch)

once your at the end of the round, DO NOT sl st together. (Photo Below)

Twist the left side and continue working another sc round. (photo shown below)

Its going to feel a little awkward at first because your working sc in a twist.

At the end row 2, continue doing sc along the twisted band until row 14. Once you’ve finished row 14, sl st to previous round. And you’re done!!

It may seem a bit tricky at first, but I promise it does get easier. You’ll be a pro in no time!

I hope you enjoyed making the Twisted Crochet Headband!
