Here’s a list of the top 5 crochet essentials every crocheter needs. This list explains 5 things that are a must when it comes to crocheting.

Top 5 crochet essentials that every crocheter needs in their life.

Hey friends,

I’ve been crocheting for quite a while now and was thinking about all the things I love about this fiber craft.

  • creating your own pattern
  • following a pattern
  • picking out different fibers
  • playing around with hook sizes
  • creating something amazing out of yarn
  • a very relaxing and stress free hobby

As I was thinking about these things, I realized that you only need yarn and a hook to start this hobby. That’s it! So my whole point of this blog post is to show you my top 5 things that I use to crochet.

So I guess this is a little appreciation post of why I love this fiber craft and how you can start this hobby with only a few things.

Top 5 Things Every Crocheter Needs

1. CROCHET HOOKS

In crochet, any hooks will do to create a project (Especially if your a beginner). When I first started crocheting, I used the aluminum hooks that can be pretty much found in any craft store. I loved starting with these hooks, because they were inexpensive and it allowed me to see if I liked crochet with out spending a lot of money.

Eventually, I transitioned over to the ergonomic crochet hook set to help lessen pressure on my risk. Plus, the soft grip was rally nice when crocheting. These are the only hooks I use to crochet and I love them!

2. All About That Gauge

Let’s talk about gauge! Gauge is something that definitely has to be checked before starting a crochet project. The reason being is because we all crochet differently. Some people might crochet more tightly and others more loosely. So we definitely want to check the gauge before starting a brand new crochet project.

One tool that I highly recommend is the Susan Bates knit-chek tool. This tool is good for both knitting and crocheting. I of course only use it for crochet, but its a knitting tool. This little gadget allows you to check your gauge very easily. It has saved me a lot of time. I even bought my mom one too! And she loves it as well.

3. Tapestry Needles (Yarn Needles)

Tapestry needles are a must when it comes to weaving in the tail ends of your crochet project. It’s makes your life so much easier! I honestly wouldn’t know what to do without them. It would obviously be quite hard to get your tail ends of your crochet project in neatly. So tapestry needles are a must!

4. Stitch Markers

Stitch markers are a great way to keep account of how many stitches you have created so far in your project. I absolutely love stitch markers and are honestly a game changer. There are many different stitch markers available online, I really like the simple plastic snap on ones. You can also make your own. Watch out for a tutorial coming soon on how to make your own!

5. Digital Row Counter

If stitch markers aren’t your thing, try a digital row counter. I go back and forth between the two. But a digital row counter is easy, because you just click how many rows you’ve created and it takes account of it. This is especially good to use for those longer crochet projects where counting rows is a must!
