Free One-Stitch Crochet Baby Blanket Pattern

My latest free crochet pattern is the Blossom Baby Blanket – a simple one-stitch repeat pattern. It’s fun and easy to work up! So if you love making one-stitch crochet patterns (like this blanket pattern), I think you’re going to like working this one up.

It’s made using basic treble crochet stitches that are worked in the back loop. So it’s definitely more of a quicker project because of the stitch that is used, but it’s also quite relaxing.

I personally love making patterns with basic crochet stitches because I find it very calming to work up. You can put on your favorite show or listen to an audiobook while stitching away.

Anyhow, let’s go over the pattern.

How to Crochet a One-Stitch Baby Blanket

So you’ll start this pattern by crocheting a row of treble crochets, and then for the other rows, you’ll work your treble crochets in the back loop. By working them in the back loop, you get a really pretty little ridge in between each row.

Once you have finished working up all of your treble crochet rows, all that’s left to do is crochet the border. Now the border is optional, but I find that it adds the perfect finishing touch!

For this crochet baby blanket pattern, you’ll crochet a simple pom-pom border. I think it looks really cute, and simple. But if you want to make another border, I think either the crab stitch border or the picot stitch border would look equally as cute.

So it’s totally up to you!

The Perfect Quick Crochet Baby Shower Gift Idea

I also wanted to mention that this crochet project would make a really cute baby shower gift. So if you’re in need of a quick gift idea, I think this would work for both a little boy and a girl. You can switch up the yarns or maybe add some stripes.

Alright, let’s go over the yarn you’ll use for this pattern.

The Yarn You’ll Use for Your Crochet Baby Blanket

For this free crochet baby blanket pattern, I decided to keep the yarn very basic. Something that you could find everywhere and substitute if you wanted to work with another yarn.

So I decided on Lion Brand Pound of Love yarn, which is a 100% acrylic-based yarn. I personally really enjoyed working with this yarn, and I really thought it brought out the stitches very nicely.

So I highly recommend it! They also have so many colors available in this yarn, and you only need one big ball to make this pattern.

Pattern Notes:

  • Pattern written in U.S Terms.
  • Chain 3 counts as 1 stitch.
  • You will first work the blanket portion of the pattern, and then you will work the border around the blanket. The blanket is made using treble crochet stitches and the border is made using chains, slip stitches, single crochets, and double crochets clusters.
  • The single crochet border is made in the same color as the blanket (Quartz), and the pom-pom border is made in the second yarn color (Fisherman).
  • Total stitches for row are indicated between ( ).

Pattern

Starting with color Quartz, ch 120.

Row 1: Tr in 4th ch from hook, tr in next stitch, and across till end of row. Turn. (117).

Row 2: ch 3, skip the first stitch, and work a tr in the next stitch. Continue by working a tr in each stitch across the row. Turn. (116).

Row 3 – Row 36: Repeat row 2.

Once you have finished your last row, it’s time to work the border portion of the blanket.

The border of the blanket is made by first working a single crochet border. The single crochet border is made in the same color as the blanket. Once you have finished the single crochet border, you will then work the pom-pom border.

The pom-pom border is made with Lion Brand Wool Ease Yarn in the color Fisherman.

Single Crochet Border

Start the border by first making a ch (place a stitch marker), then work 1 sc in the corner, and then 2 more on the side for a total of 3 sc. Now continue by working 3 sc per row on the side of your blanket.

Once you have reached a corner, make 2 sc. Now you will make a sc in each chain(foundation chain), and then work 2 sc in the next corner, followed by 3 sc on the side again.

Once you have finished your side, work 2 sc in the last corner, and then work 1 sc in each stitch until you reach the end. Once you have completed your last stitch, work a ss into the chain to connect the border.

Once you have completed your sc border, cut your yarn, and continue by making the pom-pom border.

Pom-Pom Border

Start by re-attaching your new color of yarn (in the first stitch next to your chain where you made your sc border) and make 1 sc in the same stitch where you added your yarn, then:

*Make 6 ch’s, and work 3dc-cl into the 3rd chain from the hook, and then make a ch to close the cluster. Ch 2, and work another 3dc-cl into the 3rd chain from the hook, then ch 1 to close the cluster.

Now you want to put your two clusters together (just push the top one over the other) and make a slip ss into the 3rd chain of where you made your first cluster. Then ch 3, skip 3 stitches, and make a sc into the 4th stitch.

Now continue to repeat this sequence from * all the way around the blanket. Once you have reached your last couple of stitches, you will only be able to skip 2, instead of 3 (there will only be two stitches left) for the very last pom-pom.

Finally, ss to the first sc you made when starting your pom-pom border. Then cut your yarn, and work in any remaining ends.

You’re finished. I hope you enjoyed making this pattern!
