My Crochet Journey : Part 1 – When did I start crochet?

I thought it would be fun to write about how I started with crochet. Here’s a quick snippet to my crochet journey and my crochet blogging experience.

My Crochet Journey : Part 1 – When did I start crochet?
So I thought it would be fun to write about my crochet journey and how I started in the blogging world.

The beginning:
I’ve been crafting and making things with my hands for as long as I can remember. I learned how to do all things crafty from my mom. She’s pretty amazing! (Painting, sewing, jewelry making, pottery, you name it, we’ve probably done it!).

Growing up, I was pretty much into anything crafty. I actually didn’t learn how to crochet until I was about 12 years old. My mom thought me how to crochet. She thought me the basic stitches and I believe my first project was a scarf that I never finished. I actually got pretty bored with crochet and moved onto the next craft!

Fast forward quite a few years…

I wasn’t until the summer after I graduated from college that I picked up my crochet hook again. I graduated from school with a Bachelors in Business Administration. And like any college graduate, was on the hunt for a job.

While I was filling out application after application. I found myself on Pinterest randomly scrolling through and I saw this image of a cardigan. As I looked closer it happened to be a tutorial for a basic crochet cardigan and I was like “hey, I know how to crochet! I’m going to make it!” there was a video tutorial for it on youtube and I just went for it.

I think I needed to keep my mind busy as well, creatively, and focus on other things then looking for a job. Plus, it’s very meditating!

So I went ahead and bought the supplies and watched the tutorial on youtube. Within a couple of weeks I had my very own crochet cardigan. It wasn’t perfect, but I absolutely loved it! At that moment, I totally became HOOKED on crochet. I thought it was so cool how I could make my own clothes and construct them myself. Plus, who doesn’t like playing with yarn everyday.

Here’s a picture of my first crochet cardigan that I made during the summer time

As I started making more crochet items and playing around with new stitches. I realized that I really wanted to share my passion for crochet. So why not start a crochet blog?!

I actually started a blog for fun my first year of college. I remember it had like three blog post on it (yeah a very short lived blog) and that’s it. So I knew somewhat about the whole blogging thing. But I just really wanted to share my own creations and connect with other people who love making crafts as much as I do.

So I bought my domain name and dove right into it! So far it’s been amazing and I’ve learned so many things already. I absolutely love that I can share my crochet creations and inspire other people to crochet.

The blogging world is interesting, because there’s so many different facets of it. I plan on doing a series of post on this topic.

Watch out for Part 2 coming soon on crochet blogging.
