Crochet Lotus Stitch

Lately, I’ve been looking for new crochet stitches to add to my stitch library. There’s something about finding a new stitch and seeing what type of project you can make with it.

I love crochet stiches that are simple, and easy to work up. This easy stitch uses chain, single crochet, and puff stitches. By combining all of these stitches together, you get a beautiful triple puff stitch. The triple puff stitch looks like a lotus stitch. Hence, the name of the stitch. It kind of reminds me of a tulip though too.

I think you’ll enjoy this stitch if you don’t mind making puff stitches. Its almost the same as creating double crochets within a stitch, except you wait until you have multiple loops on your hook to yarn over and pull through.

Here are some ideas of what you could make with this stitch:

  • baby blankets
  • pillows
  • sleeve borders
  • bags
  • placemats

An endless amount of options! What are some of your ideas for this beautiful detailed stitch?

Stitch Detail

The lotus crochet stitch is a very pretty, yet sturdy stitch. This stitch is also a bit dense and uses up a lot of yarn. I hope I haven’t scared you away, just being honest. One thing that I love about this stitch though is that it creates a beautiful border. The border of this stitch reminds me of the little tiny waves at the beach. What do you think?

Anyhow, if you want to learn how to crochet the lotus stitch and add it to your library. Then let’s get started!

The Crochet Lotus Stitch includes a step by step guided photo and video tutorial.

Steps 1 – 6 show in detail how to create your first puff stitch. Start by chaining a multiple of 6, plus 5. Single crochet into second chain, skip 2 chain and in the 3rd chain create your first triple puff stitch. Skip 2 more chains and single crochet in the third chain. Continue to repeat this sequence until the very last 3 chains. In the last chain, you want to only create 2 puff stitches. Once this is done, you’re finished with the first row.

I have been searching high and lo for a lotus tutorial! Thank you for this, especially the video for learners like myself. How much yarn would I need for a standard sized afghan however?

You're welcome! I'm so glad the stitch tutorial was helpful. I'm not sure on how much yarn you would need for a standard afghan, but this stitch definitely takes a lot of yarn. So I'm thinking you might need quite a bit of yarn for an afghan. 😊
